Well Care CEO Appointed to State Medical Care Commission

Wayne Long, Well Care CEO, was appointed to the North Carolina Medical Care Commission by Governor Pat McCrory on September 22, 2014. He took official Oath of Office in October and will serve a 3-year term with the commission.

The commission was originally established by the North Carolina General Assembly in the 1940s to administer federal grant funds resulting from the congressional Hill-Burton Act of 1946. Today, the commission continues to serve the purpose of improving state health care facilities. According to the NC Division of Health Service Regulation website, the commission is positioned to "adopt, recommend or rescind rules for regulation of most health care facilities". Further, the commission administers the Health Care Facilities Act, allowing it to issue bonds for financing "construction and equipment projects for non-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, continuing care facilities for the elderly and facilities related to the foregoing."

Long joins sixteen other commission members from across the state, each appointed by the governor. "I'm honored to work alongside such distinguished medical and business professionals", Long said; "It's a wonderful opportunity to serve my fellow citizens and support the advancement of our state's health care system."
