Well Care Health Partners with Wilmington-area High School for Hurricane Relief Efforts

WILMINGTON, NC, November 7, 2017 -- Well Care Health teamed up with New Hanover High School's National Honor Society in November to collect relief items for displaced hurricane victims living in shelters throughout Puerto Rico.  Well Care employees from the coast to the Triad donated food, water, and hygiene supplies, then gathered the teams' contributions at the company's Wilmington headquarters.

National Honor Society students packed up their cars and delivered the donations to Port City Volunteer and Disaster Relief. The group accepted donations at Waterline Brewing Company in downtown Wilmington. Port City Volunteer and Disaster Relief formed in late August to originally help Hurricane Harvey victims. Due to the hurricanes that followed Harvey, and the group's overwhelming community support, they decided to continue collecting donations from the community. The Port City Volunteer and Disaster Relief group is now focused on sending aide to hurricane victims in Puerto Rico.

New Hanover High School's National Honor Society students led the charge in finding a local organization that was collecting donations for hurricane victims.

"I really wanted to put the responsibility for choosing service projects on the elected student officers," said Whitney Lanier, Vocal Music Teacher and National Honor Society Adviser at New Hanover High School. "As president, Corbin Jones was given the task of organizing our first project this school year. He researched organizations in our area that were accepting donations and suggested that we team up with Well Care Health. I was thrilled with the idea! It's wonderful to work with organizations in our community for the sake of helping others. We are proud of the donations that have been collected, and hope these items will help families in Puerto Rico," Lanier added.

The Well Care Health team also jumped at the chance to partner with New Hanover High School for this great cause.

"The Well Care family was delighted to partner with New Hanover High School's Honor Society," said Chris Jones, Well Care Health's Chief Financial Officer. "Our team was in the process of researching community organizations to partner with when the Honor Society approached us about hurricane relief efforts. Their timing was perfect! We hope the donated items will provide some assistance to those in Puerto Rico still recovering from the devastation," Jones added.

Well Care Health is open to partnering with other organizations in the future within the communities they serve, from the coast to the Triad.
